Troops Recover N37m, 10 Phones from Suspects in Borno
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have intercepted five individuals transporting approximately N37m in cash under suspicious circumstances in Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported on his official X handle on Monday that the suspects were stopped while travelling in a red Golf wagon, registration number MNG 463 XA, en route to Magumeri.
According to security sources cited by Makama, the vehicle was halted at a checkpoint during routine security operations, leading to a search that uncovered the large sum of money hidden inside a “Ghana must go” bag and a sack.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the two women and three men initially claimed ignorance of the total amount they were carrying, but later alleged that the cash was intended for distribution to beneficiaries of a non-governmental organisation.
Troops also recovered around 10 assorted mobile phones from the suspects during the operation.
