E-Transmission: Wike Dismisses Amaechi’s Protest as ‘Theatrical Display’

Amid the controversy surrounding the real-time electronic transmission of election results, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused opposition figures, including former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of engaging in grandstanding and misleading the public.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that Amaechi, alongside other prominent politicians such as former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, took part in protests advocating electronic transmission of election results.

Speaking on Tuesday at a Distinguished Personality Lecture held at the University of Abuja, Wike appeared to mock Amaechi’s participation in the protest, particularly his decision to attend with his son, a medical doctor.

The minister said Amaechi claimed he brought his son along to provide medical attention to any protesters who might be injured. However, Wike questioned the preparedness of the move.

“Amaechi said he came with his son, who is a medical doctor, to treat anyone who might be injured. But where was the ambulance? Where was the medical equipment? You cannot treat people with empty hands,” he said.

Wike dismissed the gesture as a staged performance intended to sway public emotions, insisting that true leadership demands sincere action rather than what he described as theatrical displays aimed at misleading young people.
