The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 62-year-old woman at Ori-Apata Oderemi in Ido Local Government Area, Ibadan.

Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said in a statement on Friday that the suspects, Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

According to Ayanlade, the deceased was discovered lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck by a Good Samaritan along a bush path within the community.

Preliminary findings indicate the body had been at the location for at least seven days before it was found.

“The corpse was immediately evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death. The scene was sealed off while forensic experts gathered evidence to aid the investigation,” the statement read.

The police added that the case has been transferred to the State CID for a thorough investigation.

The suspects are assisting detectives while efforts continue to apprehend other accomplices linked to the crime.

Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, accompanied by a high-powered delegation of the state government, visited the community to console the bereaved family.

The CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to ensure sustained peace and stability in the area.

The command urged residents not to take the law into their hands, assuring that intensive joint patrols and strategic deployments had been launched to maintain order and reassure the community.

“The command will leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this incident and ensuring justice is served. Residents are encouraged to remain calm, law-abiding, and provide credible information to assist ongoing investigations,” Ayanlade added.
