Kano Assembly Urges Govt To Respond To US Sanctions Threat Against Kwankwaso
The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently intervene following reports that the United States is considering sanctions against the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over alleged anti-Christian positions.
Legislators in the US reportedly labelled Senator Kwankwaso as anti-Christian and accused him of financing terrorism, proposing that his assets and bank accounts be frozen.
The resolution in support of Kwankwaso followed a motion presented by the member representing Kiru Constituency, Usman Tasiu, during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore.
Tasiu described Kwankwaso as a committed public servant whose administration positively impacted Kano residents.
He highlighted the former governor’s efforts in promoting peace, supporting education, and driving infrastructural development for both Christians and Muslims.
The lawmaker also noted Kwankwaso’s role as a unifying figure between northern and southern Nigeria and praised his consistent stance against terrorism.
After deliberation, the House unanimously adopted the motion, urging the Kano State Government to take appropriate steps in response to the US allegations.
In other business, the Assembly approved motions urging the state government to construct roads in Tarauni, Madobi, Garun Malam, and Madobi Rijin Gishiri.
The motions were presented by Kabiru Dahiru (Tarauni), Sulaiman Ishaq (Madobi), Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello, and Zakariyya Alhassan (Kura/Garun Malam).
