Senator representing Kogi Central District at the National Assembly, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has demanded a thorough investigation into the recent attack on Peter Obi and other members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, describing the incident as troubling and unacceptable.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that Obi came under gunfire attack on Tuesday at the residence of the former Executive Governor of Edo State and currently the chairman of the ADC in the state, Chief John Odigie Oyegun.

Reacting to the attack in a strongly worded statement, Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan urged security agencies to act swiftly in identifying and prosecuting those responsible, stressing that political violence had no place in a democratic society.

She pointed that “failure to address such incidents could undermine public confidence in the nation’s electoral and security systems”.

The senator emphasized “that all political actors, regardless of affiliation, deserve protection and the freedom to engage with citizens without fear of intimidation or harm”.

She made it known that ensuring safety was critical to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.

The lawmaker urged for calm among citizens while authorities carry out investigations, reaffirming the need for unity and respect for democratic values.

The attack on Obi and other ADC leaders has raised security concern across the country, with Nigerians condemning the incident and calling for justice.
