Suspected Thugs Attack Benue PDP Media Consultant, Burn Car
Suspected political thugs on Friday night attacked the newly appointed Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) media consultant, Bemgba Iortyom, barely 24 hours after his appointment was announced by the state PDP Secretary, Mr Dan Nyikwagh.
Iortyom recounted the ordeal to journalists on Saturday, saying, “Last night, on George Akume Way in the heart of Makurdi, I was attacked by unknown persons. I managed to escape, but my Peugeot 406 Saloon was set ablaze and completely destroyed.”
He described the attackers as five men on two motorcycles. “I was pulling off the road to park and make a phone call when they blocked my path and, armed with short axes, descended on me. I thank God for quick thinking, which enabled me to open the car door and run away before they poured fuel on the vehicle and set it on fire.”
Iortyom added that his shouts for help went unanswered as bystanders could only watch and urge him to flee. “The whole incident unfolded very quickly,” he said.
The consultant confirmed that he had reported the attack to the police, who are now investigating.
When reached, the state police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said, “Since the victim has reported to the police, allow the police to go on with their investigation.”
