The federal government through the Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a counter-affidavit before the Federal High Court in Kaduna opposing bail application for one Abubakar Adamu, who was arrested and arraigned over comments posted on his X account concerning the Middle East conflict between Israel and Iran.

The DSS said the social media post allegedly called for the elimination of Netanyahu and could trigger international consequences involving Nigeria.

In the affidavit deposed to by a DSS operative, Jones Gabriel, the agency told the court that Adamu’s post was capable of escalating into a diplomatic crisis similar to the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran.

The DSS argued that the such statements, even when made online, couldthe Department of State Services (DSS) fuel international tensions and potentially drag Nigeria into a conflict.

The court documents sighted by OSUN DEFENDER, said, “One of the offences established against the Defendant/Applicant involves posting of inciting comment on his X handle calling for the elimination of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu”

“Such a post could lead to international conflict involving Nigeria, similar to the ongoing hostility between Israel and Iran with its attendant destruction.”

The DSS further opposed Adamu’s bail application, claiming that the charges against him were serious and could attract severe punishment, including life imprisonment if convicted.

The agency also alleged that the defendant had a troubling history of threatening individuals who held opposing religious or ideological views and claimed he maintained links with foreign intelligence networks.

“The Defendant/Applicant is not likely to make himself present for his trial if granted bail,” the DSS told the court.
