2027: Osun Lawmaker Fires Back As Accord Party Members Warn Against Imposition
Members of the Accord Party in Ife Central have urged the party leadership not to impose the lawmaker representing the constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiola Awoyeye in the forthcoming primaries of the party.
The members in a letter sent to the chairman of Accord Party in Osun and signed by chairmen, youth leaders and women leaders in Ilare, Iremo and Akarabata wards, dated March 24, said the party give room for members to choose the person who will represent them.
The letter, a copy obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, urged the party leadership to adhere to the new electoral law for direct primaries.
“The new electoral law mandates direct primaries and we urge you to adhere to this directive.
This decision was not made lightly. It follows careful consultation, reflection, and engagement with our members and the wider community.
“As critical stakeholders within our constituency, we believe leadership must reflect inclusiveness, fairness, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of the people, especially women and young people, who form a significant part of our population,” the letter partly read.
The party members argued that equal opportunity must be given to all qualified aspirants and ensure that the democratic process is respected at every level.
“Our collective position is driven by the desire to build and sustain an egalitarian political environment, one that guarantees equal opportunity for all qualified
aspirants and ensures that the democratic process is respected at every level.
“We strongly believe that the future of Ife Central Constituency must be
determined through transparent, credible, and competitive processes rather than predetermined outcomes.
“In this regard, we respectfully implore the leaders and party authorities within Ife Central Constituency to uphold the principles of internal democracy by
allowing a free, fair, and transparent primary election among all contestants and aspirants. Such a process will not only restore confidence among party members and constituents but also strengthen unity, legitimacy, and collective progress,” the letter added.
However, a rejoinder signed by the lawmaker’s media assistant, Tobi Oladoye, said those behind the letter were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The rejoinder said “More importantly, credible indications suggest that those behind this action are elements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), allegedly being influenced by certain members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to frustrate the progress and development currently ongoing in Ife Central State Constituency.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Honourable Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye is no longer a member of the PDP but a committed member of the Accord Party. It is therefore questionable and unreasonable for individuals from other political parties to issue threats and make demands against a leader who no longer belongs to their platform.”
The lawmaker further said members and stakeholders in the constituency have openly acknowledged his contributions to the development of Ife Central since he was elected in 2023.
“Indeed, many members and respected stakeholders of Ife Central Constituency have openly acknowledged that they have never witnessed this level of development and people-oriented representation in the history of the constituency.
“We therefore urge the good people of Ife Central to disregard this politically motivated narrative. Honourable Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye remains committed to democratic values, grassroots development, and the continued progress of the constituency under the Accord Party,” he added.
