August 15: Group Tasks IGP To Caution Osun Police Command
●Commends Adeleke for Endorsing Tinubu
A political pressure group, Osun Leaders of Thought has called on the new Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu to caution the Osun Police Command against partisanship and politically motivated arrests and harassment ahead of the August 15 election.
The group in a statement issued on Thursday after its 8th meeting at Ile Ife, a copy obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, alleged that the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, while in office, deliberately posted some senior officers to Osun with the agenda of pursuing partisan interests, calling on the new helmsman to rejig the police Command in Osun state.
The statement signed by Otunba Adeagbo Oyegbola, Secretary General, said the former IGP posted Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of police to the state, adding that their conduct and actions since their arrival in Osun confirm their partisan mission which includes targeted arrests and harassment of state politicians outside the All Progressives Congress(APC).
“It will interest the IGP to note that the Osun police Command has been taking directives from known APC chieftains such as Adebayo Banik, Remi Omowaiye, Hon Owoeye, Bola Oyebamiji among others. This open partisanship is a threat to peaceful coexistence ahead of Osun elections. Such conduct where police become an agency of some politicians is a threat to law and order as well as this nascent democracy.

“In line with your avowed declaration to reform the police to conform with the rule of law and the constitution, we task you to reorganise Osun police Command. Police should not act as an arm of a political party. We appeal to the new IGP to act on this request as urgently as possible”, the group posited.
The group further commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential elections.
“We appreciated the Governor for repeating his endorsement of Mr President. We are particularly grateful to the governor for recognising the importance of his endorsement because Mr President is our distinguished son from this state.
“As a body, we repeat our support for the re-election of both Mr President and Governor Adeleke. We don’t have to change a winning team”, the group noted in a statement issued at Osogbo.
Efforts to get the reaction of the state police command proved abortive as calls put across to the command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, were not connecting at the time of this report.
