A former deputy governor and the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress.

Gawuna registered with the party and received his membership card on Tuesday at his Gawuna Ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

The event was attended by prominent political figures, including a former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; the immediate past deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo; and the state chairman of the party, Musa Ungogo, alongside thousands of party supporters.

Speaking shortly after his registration, Gawuna expressed appreciation to his supporters and party leaders, assuring them of his commitment to strengthening the ADC in the state.

His defection comes amid a wave of political realignments in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with key actors shifting alliances and recalibrating their political strategies.

The development follows his recent resignation from the APC, which he described as a personal and voluntary decision in a letter addressed to his ward chairman.

In the letter dated March 29, 2026, Gawuna thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the party’s growth during his membership.
