ADC: US Should Impose Visa Ban on Tinubu’s Officials – Timi Frank

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on the United States and the international community to impose sanctions on key officials of the Federal Government over alleged actions he says threaten Nigeria’s democracy.

Frank made the call in a statement on Friday, urging the U.S. government to enforce visa bans, economic sanctions, and asset freezes on top government functionaries whom he accused of supporting anti-democratic practices.

He alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is using state institutions to weaken opposition parties ahead of future elections.

According to him, “The aim and goal are to ensure that no political party fields a candidate strong enough to contest with the president,” warning that such actions could push the country into crisis if not urgently addressed.

Frank further accused institutions such as the judiciary and legislature of being used to frustrate opposition parties, insisting that democracy should remain a contest of ideas rather than what he described as a “monarchical system.”

He also appealed to the United States, the United Nations, and other international bodies to intervene before the situation worsens.

“The international community must not wait until Nigeria descends into crisis or conflict before taking action,” he said, warning that instability in Nigeria, with its population of over 200 million people, could trigger a large-scale refugee crisis.

His comments come after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last week delisted the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark.

The opposition party had blamed President Tinubu’s administration for the development, but INEC later clarified that the decision followed ongoing court disputes involving the party.
