The ruling Accord Party in Osun State has formally petitioned the police over what it described as threatening and inflammatory statements allegedly made by the All Progressives Congress campaign Director General, Hon. Wole Oke.

In the petition, dated April 09, 2026, addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone XI Headquarters in Osogbo, and copied to the Nigeria Police Force leadership in Abuja, the party called for an immediate investigation and possible prosecution over the statements credited to Oke, representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, in a viral video circulating online.

The petition, filed by ASA Attorneys on behalf of the state chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Akande, described the alleged remarks as “menacing, inflammatory and capable of inciting violence.”

The petition said the APC campaign Director-General was heard in the video warning that individuals who do not politically align with where Bola Ahmed Tinubu belongs should be prepared to “face dire consequences.”

The party argued that such statements, if verified, amount to a direct threat to the lives, safety, and civil liberties of citizens in Osun State, particularly members and supporters of opposition parties. It further noted that the alleged comments could heighten political tension and undermine citizens’ constitutional rights to freedom of association and political participation as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.

The petitioners also expressed concern that the viral video has already generated fear and anxiety among residents and political stakeholders across the state.

The petitioner urged the police to carry out a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the matter. It specifically called for the invitation and questioning of the lawmaker, as well as the initiation of appropriate legal measures if a prima facie case of intimidation or conduct likely to breach public peace is established.”

The party also “called for heightened security presence across Osun State to ensure that political actors and citizens can freely exercise their democratic rights without fear of harassment or violence.”

The petition, according to the party, is a necessary step to safeguard democratic values and prevent political intimidation in the state.
