The Nigeria Police Force has launched a full investigation into allegations of misconduct and attempted extortion involving officers from the Satellite Town Division in Lagos after a viral video resurfaced online, with all officers captured in the footage identified and summoned for questioning.

The Force confirmed that the incident, which recently regained attention on social media, occurred in May 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement shared on X on Saturday by the Police Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa.

“We saw the video, we acted, and here is where things stand. When (Rhapstar) posted the viral video on 4 April 2026, alleging misconduct by officers from the Satellite Town Division, Lagos, we took the matter seriously and acted immediately,” he said.

Giwa said the Divisional Police Officer and other personnel involved had been summoned, with statements obtained and interviews conducted.

“The DPO and the officers involved were summoned, statements were obtained, and detailed interviews were conducted. Preliminary findings indicate the incident occurred in May 2025,” he added.

He noted that efforts are ongoing to reach the complainants featured in the video.

“We are working to obtain additional details directly from the victims, as their accounts are central to the investigation,” he said.

Giwa dismissed claims of a cover-up, insisting the process reflects accountability.

“This process is not a cover-up; it is a demonstration of accountability,” he stated.

“No officer is above accountability, and no incident is too old to investigate. The investigation is ongoing. We will provide regular updates,” he added.

He also commended Nigerians for drawing attention to the incident.

“To every Nigerian who spoke up, your voice prompted accountability, as it should be,” he said.

In the viral footage, an individual recorded an encounter between himself, a friend, and police officers during a roadside stop-and-search operation in Satellite Town, Lagos.

The officers requested to search their vehicle and belongings before directing them across the road, a move that raised tension.

The individual questioned being moved to what he described as a less visible area while continuing to film.

At several points, one officer used abusive language in Pidgin, while another searched through the bags during the encounter.
