Arsenal Fan Threatens Legal Action Against Club Over Bournemouth Performance
A Ugandan supporter of Arsenal Football Club, Eric Kyama, has formally notified the club of his intention to initiate legal action, accusing it of professional negligence, tactical incompetence and causing emotional distress.
In a “Notice of Intent to Sue” dated April 11 and addressed to the club’s headquarters in London, Kyama said Arsenal’s recent performance against AFC Bournemouth amounted to a “fundamental breach of the implied contract between the club and its global fanbase.”
The letter, which he shared on X and copied to international media organisations, outlined allegations against the club, its players and manager Mikel Arteta.
Kyama accused the players of professional negligence, claiming they showed “a complete lack of industry” and failed to demonstrate urgency or commitment on the pitch.
He also criticised Arteta, alleging the manager lacked the tactical ability to lead the team, and described the performance as “disjointed” and “directionless.”
The supporter further argued that the club’s showing caused emotional and financial distress, noting that fans invest significant time, money and emotional energy in supporting the team.
Kyama also alleged misrepresentation of brand values, stating that Arsenal’s promotion of ideals such as excellence and “Victory Through Harmony” was contradicted by what he described as a lack of fighting spirit.
He warned that unless the club provides a formal explanation and outlines steps to improve performance, he would proceed with legal action seeking damages for psychological impact and loss of confidence.
“Expect further communication from my legal representatives,” the letter concluded.
The notice has since gone viral online, drawing mixed reactions from fans and commentators, with many expressing amusement and scepticism over the legal basis of the claims.
Arsenal Football Club has yet to issue an official response.
