Police Nab 33 Suspects Linked To Eruku Church Attack
The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the arrest of 33 suspected members of a criminal gang linked to the violent attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Kwara State, which occurred in November last year.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the suspects are among 50 individuals connected to terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery activities.
Placid said the arrests were made as part of a “strategic offensive against syndicates that have long threatened the peace of the nation” since January.
He added that several key suspects are ready to be prosecuted, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and recover more illegal weapons.
Gunmen had invaded the church on November 18, killing three worshippers and abducting 38 others during a service.
A video from the incident showed members of the congregation worshipping before gunshots suddenly rang out around the church premises.
Days after the attack, Bola Tinubu announced that all abducted worshippers had been successfully rescued.
