Lagos Hospital, Woman Clash Over ‘Missing Newborn Twin’
There was a heated confrontation between a woman identified as Blessing Isioma David, 28, and a private hospital in the Ikotun area of Lagos State after she accused the facility of allegedly withholding one of her newborn twins following delivery, a claim the hospital strongly denied.
In a viral video, the visibly distressed woman was seen holding a newborn baby while confronting the medical staff of a hospital identified as Tip-Top Solution Hospital.
The woman repeatedly demanded answers about the whereabouts of her second baby.
“Produce my second baby. This is not good enough. I did not come to this hospital to be robbed of my baby,” she was heard shouting in the footage circulating on X.
In the background of the video, individuals accompanying the woman could also be heard calling for the arrest of hospital staff over alleged baby theft.
A medical document shown in the viral clip, reportedly belonging to the patient, indicated a twin pregnancy dated March 2026.
The scan report stated that “Twin visible. Twin 1 is an oblique cephalic while Twin 2 is a transverse presentation. Normal cardiac pulsations noted,” and further added that “Gender for Twin 1 is XY, while Gender for Twin 2 is XX.”
However, the hospital’s medical director, Sunday Babajide, dismissed the allegation, insisting that only one baby was delivered and attributing the discrepancy to an error in the scan report.
“The scan was wrong, and she did not do another scan in another centre. It was an error; the scan said two instead of one,” Babajide said.
He further explained that the husband of the woman was present during the delivery process.
“We invited the husband to the theatre… the husband witnessed that it was one. The woman herself was not asleep; she was awake,” he added.
Babajide maintained that the family was informed immediately after delivery, while acknowledging that the hospital should have insisted on a repeat scan.
“The mistake we made was that we should have insisted on her doing another scan elsewhere to be doubly sure,” he said.
He also noted that the scan was conducted at about 20 weeks of pregnancy, adding that such errors, though rare, can occur at that stage.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that it has commenced an investigation into the incident.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said, “The Command is aware of the trending video and wishes to inform the public that the matter is currently under investigation. Relevant professional bodies and associations have been contacted and are working in synergy with the Police to get to the root of the situation.”
The police added that the Area Commander in Area M was personally overseeing the case and assured that the findings would be made public.
“The outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course,” the statement added, urging members of the public to remain calm as the situation was under control.
