Tinubu Didn’t Endorse Adeleke’s Re-Election — Osun APC Lawmakers
The Five All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers representing Osun State in the National Assembly have denied claims that President Bola Tinubu assured Governor Ademola Adeleke of support ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The lawmakers said the allegation was false and urged the public to disregard it, stressing that the President never made such a commitment.
In a statement obtained by journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, the federal legislators maintained that at no time did Tinubu endorse Adeleke or indicate any political alignment with him.
The statement was signed by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, Oluwole Oke, Abimbola Ajilesoro, and Sanya Omirin.
Dismissing reports of a political meeting between Tinubu and Adeleke, the lawmakers clarified that the only interaction between both parties was a Sallah visit to the President in Lagos by the governor’s family.
“Our attention has been drawn to the lies being circulated by some Accord Party members claiming that President Bola Tinubu is backing Governor Ademola Adeleke in the forthcoming governorship election.
“We consider it necessary to put the record straight. The President did not at any time endorse or approve Adeleke’s candidacy.
“There was no political meeting between the President and the governor. The only meeting was a Sallah homage paid to him in Lagos last year by Adeleke’s family,” the statement read.
The lawmakers further stated that in their engagements with the President, he never expressed support for Adeleke, but instead showed confidence in the APC’s chances in Osun.
They also questioned the logic behind claims of any alliance, noting that the APC already has a candidate in Bola Oyebamiji contesting the election.
The group accused members of the Accord Party of spreading misinformation and urged APC supporters not to be misled.
The lawmakers added that the APC’s performance in the 2023 presidential election in Osun could be significantly improved ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in securing greater support for Tinubu.
