Osun 2026: Oyebamiji Alleges Adeleke Govt Plans To Use Security Fund For Campaign

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has alleged that the state government intends to channel funds from the newly introduced Security Trust Fund into Governor Ademola Adeleke’s 2026 re-election campaign.

The state government had earlier announced the initiative through its Chairman of Media and Publicity, Kunle Adepoju, describing it as a move to boost the capacity of security agencies and tackle emerging threats.

However, Oyebamiji, through the Coordinator of his Media Fronts, Adebayo Adedeji, in a statement on Wednesday, raised concerns over the timing of the initiative and questioned its transparency.

“We have it on reliable authority that the proposed Osun State Security Trust Fund is intended to raise campaign funds for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke. The intention, contrary to public claims, is not genuinely for security,” Adedeji said.

He further alleged that the state government is seeking alternative sources of funding after losing control of local government allocations now managed by APC-led officials.

Adedeji also claimed that the state’s finances have come under pressure, with increasing scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to him, the EFCC is investigating alleged irregularities surrounding the N11.9 billion ecological fund released to the state in 2025, as well as the alleged diversion of Universal Basic Education funds received since 2023.

He added that there are ongoing probes involving the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, whose company, Akinkas Interbiz Limited, is reportedly under investigation over alleged contract irregularities linked to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

Adedeji warned individuals and corporate organisations against contributing to the security initiative, alleging a pattern of mismanagement by the current administration.

“The Adeleke administration has established a troubling and disgusting record of financial mismanagement. Within 40 months, the government has received close to N1 trillion in revenue. Out of this, nearly N100 billion has been spent on the Governor’s office,” he said.

He further claimed that N2.6 billion was spent on security in 2023, N3.18 billion in 2024, and N9.19 billion in 2025, totalling N14.98 billion, without the procurement of operational vehicles for security agencies.

Oyebamiji questioned the rationale behind seeking donations for a security fund months before the governorship election, urging residents to be cautious.

“If the governor could not account for the huge funds received in the last three years, what moral justification does he have now to appeal for donations for a purported security fund just four months before a governorship election?” he asked.

He advised those willing to support security efforts to donate equipment directly to security agencies rather than contribute to the fund.

“The people must not allow themselves to be misled or exploited. Public resources and goodwill must not be used to sustain a failing administration,” Oyebamiji added.
