The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), has called for an investigation into the killing of one Kolade Eluyera, a son of the Irewole Accord Party women leader.

A statement by the spokesperson of the campaign council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleged that Eluyera was killed last night around Onireke Mosque, Ikire, by suspected thugs allegedly working for the opposition party.

“This disturbing development is reportedly coming after several complaints, security reports, and intelligence alerts had earlier been lodged at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ikire and the Office of the Area Commander concerning alleged kidnapping, abduction, violent intimidation, harassment, and coordinated attacks targeted at members of the ACCORD Party in Irewole Local Government,” the statement noted.

Olajengbesi said despite the complaints, no visible, preventive, or decisive law enforcement action was taken to forestall the escalation of violence which he said has now culminated in the unfortunate loss of human life.

“What is unfolding in Osun State is becoming dangerously alarming, condemnable, and a direct threat to constitutional democracy, public peace, and political freedom.

“Political disagreement must never be allowed to degenerate into violence, criminal intimidation, bloodshed, and extra-judicial attacks on citizens exercising their constitutional rights to political participation and association.

“The continued silence, apparent indifference, and slow institutional response of security agencies in the face of repeated reports of politically motivated violence are now raising serious legal, moral, and security concerns among residents, political stakeholders, and the wider public,” he added.

The statement urged the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and all relevant security and law enforcement agencies to immediately commence a comprehensive, independent, and transparent investigation into the killing of Eluyera and ensure “that every individual connected directly or indirectly to the attack, including sponsors, collaborators, aiders, and abettors, irrespective of political affiliation, status, or influence, are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

“We further call on security agencies to immediately strengthen operational security presence within Irewole Local Government and other politically sensitive areas across Osun State in order to prevent further breakdown of law and order, political violence, and possible retaliatory attacks capable of threatening public peace,” Olajengbesi added.
