Netizens Drag Davido For Calling Oyetola “Desperate Politician”
Popular Nigerian Afrobeat star, David Adeleke known as “Davido” has come under heavy criticism on social media after describing former Osun State governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, as “the most desperate politician in the world.”
Davido’s comment came amid rising political tension in Osun State following the attack on the state secretariat of the Accord Party in Osogbo by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
The incident, which reportedly left parts of the building riddled with bullet holes and damaged property, sparked accusations and counter-accusations between the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress.
While the Accord Party blamed the APC for the attack, the opposition party dismissed the allegation as fabricated and politically motivated.
Reacting to the development, Davido on Monday night wrote on X: “OYETOLA UR PLAN NO GO WORK. The most desperate politician in the world is @GboyegaOyetola very embarrassing.”
However, the singer’s post triggered mixed reactions from Nigerians, many of whom accused him of only speaking out when issues affect the political interests of his family. Several users criticised him for allegedly ignoring worsening insecurity and killings in the country while focusing on Osun politics.
Some commenters also argued that Davido’s criticism was driven by loyalty to his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, while others warned him against making allegations that could lead to legal consequences. Here are some of the reactions:
@OkikiolaTi46237 wrote, “Oyetola life don senpele my Idolo we go mount that man for you no worry.”
@Is_life_eezy criticised the singer, saying, “Imagine!! See people with voice in Nigeria. A teacher, a Yoruba man, a Nigerian was beheaded today and the video of them slaughtering him was posted online, but all that concerns you is how Oyetola plan won’t work. You’re already rich and so is your family, why can’t you use your voice for ordinary Nigerians?”
@pwqls warned Davido about possible legal consequences, writing, “You go talk wetin e do when lawsuit hit you Davido, you go explain for station.”
Mc_Cinema accused the singer of pursuing selfish political interests, saying, “All this tweet is for your selfish interest because your uncle no get him way. Una family get money already but una still dey fight for our country money.”
@Princetobtob questioned Davido’s criticism of Oyetola, asking, “And your uncle is not desperate? You see how evil blind your guys eyes once your family members are involved.”
@machalagun urged Osun residents to support Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term, writing, “People of Osun if una allow this man win just know you guys are destined to be in the dark for life… allow Adeleke to do 4+4.”
@mamuzoBV also faulted the singer, saying, “The only time Davido speaks against the government, corruption and bad practices in politics is when his dancing uncle is not getting his way.”
@Hisvento wrote, “Hey Davido I respect you so much but calling another politician desperate man so funny.”
@yhamenfc added, “Nah once Davido say make him help his uncle for politics, our music industry don turn to trash.”
@_Judlaw said, “Na only Osun politics concern this one. For the Nigerian elite, it is always about their selfish interests.”
YeyeOba001 argued that Oyetola was not contesting any election, writing, “Gboyega Oyetola is not contesting. Leave the man’s name out of your mouth.”
@_Daytonaa also reacted harshly, saying, “Your uncle just a little better. Just that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.”
@tyosoo criticised the singer for allegedly ignoring insecurity in the country, writing, “A teacher in the South West has been beheaded, no comments or remorse, you’re only concerned about your family being in control of power.”
@fagbemi_hamza advised Davido to stay calm, stating, “You need to chill and stop acting like a baby politician man, this isn’t some music banter.”
