The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued, insisting that the victims are still in captivity as security agencies continue coordinated operations to secure their release.

In a statement issued on Friday, the command described the reports circulating on social media and other informal platforms as false and misleading, warning the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and disrupting ongoing rescue efforts.

The statement, signed by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said security operatives were intensifying efforts to rescue the victims and arrest those responsible for the abduction.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act,” the statement read.

“The Command hereby debunks the rumour currently circulating that the victims have been rescued. Members of the public are urged to remain calm, support the ongoing efforts of the joint security team, and verify every piece of information before sharing it.

“The spread of fake news and misinformation only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension, and diverts limited security resources that are critically needed for the ongoing operations,” the statement added.

The command assured residents that security agencies remained committed to rescuing the victims unharmed and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

It also urged residents and journalists to rely only on official communication channels for credible updates on the incident.

The abduction in Orire Local Government Area has continued to raise concerns among residents and parents amid growing insecurity and repeated attacks on schools and vulnerable communities across parts of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the family of Michael Oyedokun, one of the abducted teachers who was later killed by terrorists, described his death as a devastating and irreplaceable loss, lamenting that he died childless after more than 10 years of marriage.

Oyedokun was among teachers abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area last Friday.

The late teacher was kidnapped alongside colleagues from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, while other affected schools included Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso.

The attacks also claimed the lives of assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist.

Following the attacks, the Oyo State Government ordered the closure of schools in four local government areas as security agencies intensified rescue operations.
