- As Judges, Staff Relocate To Osogbo Amid Leaks, Flood, Collapsing Building – LEAD
Judges and staff of the Osun State High Court sitting in Ede have vacated the premises over fears of building collapse.
The court building, which was reportedly constructed during the Ibrahim Babangida era, is said to be in a bad shape, with almost all offices leaking.
Judges and staff said the ongoing road construction by the state government has also allegedly worsened safety risks, with a 33KVA electrical pole in front of the premises said to be tilting. The premises is also allegedly flooded whenever it rains, a development linked to the construction.
Speaking during a court session on May 25, 2026, one of the judges raised the alarm over the danger.
The judge also spoke about the leaking roof and flooding, noting that efforts had been made to notify authorities.
He asked senior lawyers present, some of whom are indigenes of Ede, to step outside and assess the danger posed by the electrical pole.
The judge noted that the court was not facing some of the issues until the road construction started, adding that the premises was no longer conducive.

“I want all the senior lawyers to go out and see what I have been complaining about. The risk the court is faced with. The 33 KVA pole in front of the court is in bad shape as a result of the construction going on.
“Some offices are leaking, and the effect of the rain is too much. This court was built during the Babangida era. The gabion is about to fall.
“We have not been having any of these issues until this construction started. This place is not conducive,” the judge said.
After the lawyers returned from inspecting the pole, they requested a private session with the judge in chambers. On resuming, the judge appreciated their concern and expressed hope for a quick solution.
OSUN DEFENDER visited the Ede court premises on Friday, June 5, and met three people at the entrance.

When asked why the court was not in session, a man who claimed to be working there said proceedings had been moved to Court Seven inside the state High Court complex in Osogbo.
“We are now in Court Seven in Osogbo. That is where you will go if you have any business with the High Court, Ede, for now. They want to renovate this place,” he stated. He declined to give his name.
OSUN DEFENDER also observed that the 33KVA pole affected by the construction was still standing.
A court clerk confirmed to OSUN DEFENDER during a visit to the Osun State High Court, Osogbo that proceedings would hold there until the Ede building is renovated and made conducive.
Efforts to get reactions from the state Ministry of Works and the state judiciary proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
