Man, Girlfriend Arrested Over Alleged Murder, Sale of Woman’s Body Parts
The police have arrested a man identified as Ofofon and his girlfriend over the alleged murder of a young woman and the sale of her body parts in Calabar, Cross River State.
The suspect, said to be from Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State but residing at Afokang by Jebbs Street in Calabar South, was arrested alongside his girlfriend on Tuesday following the discovery of the crime.
According to residents, the woman allegedly invited her friend to spend the night at their residence on Monday. It was alleged that during the night, the couple killed the victim, dismembered her body and sold the parts to buyers.
A resident identified as Theresa told Vanguard that neighbours became suspicious after noticing blood flowing from a drainage pipe connected to the apartment.
She said, “The man’s girlfriend, who works at a chemist, invited one of her friends to sleep over. During the night, they allegedly killed her and cut her body into parts. They expected rainfall to wash away the blood, but it did not rain again. By morning, blood was seen flowing through the drain, prompting residents to alert the police.”
Theresa further claimed that one of the suspect’s minibuses arrived at the residence around 2 a.m. and later returned him home after what was believed to be the delivery of the body parts.
“He owns three minibuses. One of them came to pick him up at about 2 a.m., apparently to deliver the body parts, and brought him back later,” she alleged.
The resident added that the female suspect claimed she had been locked inside a room by her boyfriend before the killing occurred, though she expressed doubt about the claim.
She also alleged that the suspect had previously been linked to suspicious activities and that his former wife had left him years ago with their three children.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the arrest of the couple on suspicion of murder.
He said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
