Court Remands Man For Entering Ataoja’s Palace
An Osun State Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Osogbo, has remanded a 26-year-old man, Odunayo Monday, in Ilesa Correctional Centre for entering the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
The prosecutor, Rasak Olayiwola, told the court that Monday jumped the fence into Ataoja’s palace, an act said to be an offence punishable under the law.
According to the charge sheet, on June 2, 2026, about 10pm, at Ataoja palace, Oja-Oba area, Osogbo, Monday jumped the fence with intent to commit felony inside, contrary to Section 508 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2002.
The convict, who had no legal representative, pleaded guilty and asked the court for mercy.
When asked why he jumped the fence, he said he wanted to meet the monarch for help.
“I wanted to go and meet Kabiesi for help. Please, forgive me,” he said.
Magistrate Muibah Olatunji convicted Monday and ordered that he be remanded in the correctional centre.
The case was then adjourned to June 29 for sentencing.
