The announcement was made during “The Big Announcement” event at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, where Headies founder and HipTV CEO, Ayo Animashaun, unveiled plans aimed at expanding the award’s global reach while maintaining strong connections with Nigerian audiences.
Animashaun explained that the initiative would ensure fans at home remain fully involved in the celebration.
“The first thing is that we’re going to Toronto for the 18th Headies. The second thing is that we’re not just going to Toronto; we’re not leaving Nigeria behind. We’re going to have a watch party, we’re going to have a watch show, between Toronto and Lagos. For the first time, we’re having a training and investment summit,” he said.
Organisers also unveiled the Headies Trade and Investment Summit, designed to foster collaboration among creatives, investors, businesses, and industry stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Carlos Rojas-Arbulu described the decision to host the awards in Toronto as evidence of the growing international appeal of Nigerian music and Afrobeats.

BBNaija’s Isabella Celebrates Son Ahead of 15th Birthday
Big Brother Naija star Isabella has reflected on her journey as a single mother while paying a touching tribute to her son ahead of his 15th birthday in September.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Isabella described her son as her greatest achievement and the centre of her life, noting that every sacrifice she made raising him has been worthwhile.
“My biggest achievement is right here—my son. His growth and happiness are my top priority. Every sacrifice, every drop of blood, sweat, and tears has been worth it a thousand times over. I did it all with the help of God and those He sent into our lives,” she wrote.
The reality TV star praised her son for his kindness, intelligence, humility and respect for others, adding that he sees her simply as his mother rather than judging her by her past.
Looking ahead to his milestone birthday, Isabella said she eagerly anticipates celebrating the young teenager, whom she affectionately described as her “better half.”
