Osun Police Begin Crackdown On Vehicles With Covered, Fake Number Plates

The Osun State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement against vehicles and motorcycles operating with covered, defaced, fake, or unregistered number plates.

The operation, which began Monday, according to a statement by the command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police. Police.

Ojelabi said the move is to strengthen security, boost public safety, and stop criminals from hiding behind obscured plates.

The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, ordered all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to impound offending vehicles and conduct thorough investigations.

The directive also covers vehicles with improperly issued, altered, or unauthorized registration plates.

The Command advised motorists, transport operators, and fleet owners to ensure their vehicles display valid and clearly visible number plates at all times. Police said the exercise is not meant to harass law-abiding citizens.

“This is to enhance our capacity to identify vehicles, investigate crimes, track suspects, and strengthen the security architecture of Osun State,” the Command stated.

Police assured residents that officers deployed for the enforcement will conduct themselves professionally and within the law.

The Command also urged the public to support the effort with credible and timely information.
