Forgery Allegation: Senate Dismisses Oshiomhole’s Claim on Natasha Suspension Report
The Senate has dismissed allegations made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole that signatures were forged or improperly included in the report that recommended the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, insisting that no such irregularity occurred in the chamber’s handling of the matter.
Speaking in an interview with TheCable on Tuesday, the Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, said the upper legislative chamber will review Oshiomhole’s recent comments on the issue, while rejecting claims that some lawmakers did not sign the suspension report.
“That is not true. Signatures forged, over what?” he said.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, had alleged in an interview on AIT that some senators whose names appeared on the report did not personally sign it.
He specifically cited Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claiming she told him she only signed the committee attendance register and not the suspension report.
Adaramodu insisted no senator had raised such concerns formally on the floor of the Senate.
“If Senator Kingibe had anything against any procedure, she would report it on the floor of the senate, not to an individual,” he said.
“But it is not even true, because I was part of the ethics and public petitions committee that listened to the matter.
“Nobody will say that he or she was coerced or somebody’s signature was forged; that has never happened in the senate and it cannot happen.”
He added that senators would have spoken up during plenary if there had been any procedural issue.
On whether Oshiomhole could be sanctioned, Adaramodu said the Senate would first review his comments before taking a position.
“We are going to review any statements made by him. The senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments from any senator appropriately,” he said.
Oshiomhole had alleged that at least three senators privately told him they did not sign the report, despite their names appearing on it.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 over allegations of gross misconduct and unruly behaviour following her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
