Resumption: Hold Adeleke Responsible For Any Breakdown Of Law In Osun LGAs — APC Tells Police
The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has alerted the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies over what it described as a “planned invasion of local government council secretariats by elected Peoples Democratic Party chairmen and councillors from Friday, June 19”.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the state government and PDP council officials announced through their counsel, Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, that chairmen elected on February 22, 2025, will resume at secretariats following Monday’s Federal High Court judgment that sacked officials elected under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration.
But in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed the Supreme Court had earlier described the PDP officials elected on February 22, 2025, as “unknown to the law”.
The party said Governor Ademola Adeleke directed them to invade councils despite the legal status.
The statement also accused Osun NLC Chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, of re-echoing the alleged illegal directive. Olabisi said Arapasopo “has turned himself into the re-election campaign manager of Governor Adeleke” for the forthcoming governorship election.
According to the APC, its chairmen and councillors elected on October 15, 2022, have filed a notice of appeal at the appellate court following the Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi.
The court ruled that their three-year tenure ended in October 2025.
The party argued that constitutional standards require allowing the case to run its full course.
“It is the law that once an appeal and an application for stay of execution of a judgment have been filed, no party is allowed to proceed with the execution of such a judgment,” Olabisi stated.
APC said PDP members began threatening to storm council secretariats after a letter by their lawyer to UBA management on the local government issue went viral on Wednesday.
The party described them as “high and low members of PDP that have transformed into the now deregistered Accord Party”.
The APC urged the state police command to hold Governor Adeleke and Arapasopo responsible for any breakdown of law and order resulting from the alleged directive.
“We are enjoining the state police command and other sister security services to be on alert with a view to arresting any disgruntled elements whose mission is to disturb public peace under the guise of playing dirty politics,” the APC noted, warning against actions capable of plunging the state into avoidable crisis.
