Ekubo was laid to rest on June 18, 2026, in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. In an emotional Instagram post, Grace revealed that dressing the late actor for his final journey was one of the most difficult tasks Yomi had ever undertaken.

She recalled the close friendship between the two men, noting that Yomi would usually inform Ekubo whenever his outfits were ready for fitting, often followed by playful banter. This time, however, there was no response.

According to Grace, Yomi spent weeks perfecting the suit, insisting that Ekubo would not have accepted anything less than excellence. Despite his grief, the designer personally ensured every detail was flawless before taking the outfit to the funeral home to dress his friend one final time.

She praised her husband’s strength and dedication, describing the experience as a painful but honourable farewell to a cherished friend.

Omoni Oboli Releases Film, Donates Proceeds to Alex Ekubo’s Family

Actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has paid tribute to the late Alex Ekubo by releasing one of their earliest collaborations, The First Lady, on her YouTube channel.

Announcing the gesture after Ekubo’s burial, Oboli revealed that the movie marked the beginning of their friendship over a decade ago. She described the late actor as someone who poured his heart into the project and gave his best performance.

The filmmaker also disclosed that all proceeds generated from views of the movie on YouTube would be donated to Ekubo’s family. She urged fans and colleagues to watch the film as a way of honouring his memory and supporting those he left behind.
