Suspected political thugs have allegedly shot and killed an Accord Party member in Esa Oke, Obokun Local Government Area, identified as Ajayi Rogba, hours after the party announced plans for a campaign visit to the town.

The deceased was reportedly shot in the neck on Tuesday evening in front of his father’s house, according to a Facebook post by the Accord Party candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi.

Rogba’s death came just days after a 14-year-old boy, Ezekiel Olapade, was shot dead by political hoodlums in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government.

Olajengbesi, who shared the news, said Rogba was an indigene of Esa Oke and one of the major planners of Wednesday’s planned Accord rally in the town.

The candidate stated that the deceased was married with four children.

“This is the most painful experience of my political life,” Olajengbesi wrote.

“He was an innocent man. An indigene of Esa Oke, killed in front of his father’s house just because he believed in my aspiration.”

He vowed to honour Rogba’s and others who have lost their lives to political violence by pursuing justice through lawful means.

“Every innocent life matters, and those responsible for this deadly act should know that they will give account one day,” he added.

He described the killing as a deep personal loss, noting that the incident occurred on the same day the team announced its visit to Esa Oke.

As of press time, the Osun State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident.
