Osun CP Is Biased, Should Be Moved Out — Adeleke Tells IGP Delegation
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has told a delegation sent by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, that the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, is biased and should be immediately moved out of the state ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke made the demand while receiving the police delegation tasked with assessing the security situation in the state following recent incidents of political violence.
The governor accused the Commissioner of Police of failing to discharge his duties impartially, insisting that his continued stay in office could undermine public confidence in the police and the credibility of the election process.
“The Commissioner of Police has demonstrated lack of willingness and capacity to act fairly and without partisan bias,” Adeleke said.
He also alleged that the police chief had lost the trust of many residents across the state, stressing the need for neutral policing to guarantee peaceful elections.
“The general consensus among Osun people is that the Commissioner of Police is compromised and should be moved out of the state. Osun seeks fair policing, impartial policing and policing based on respect for rule of law. We are not asking for any favour other than fair protection of lives and properties,” he added.
Adeleke urged the delegation to convey his concerns to the police leadership, warning that a credible election would be difficult without an impartial security apparatus.
“We task you to convey our position to the police leadership of which you are an integral part. Osun people want free and fair polls. Our people seek a peaceful environment to cast their votes. We need the reshuffling of the state police command to secure impartial policing,” he said.
He maintained that his administration was not seeking special treatment but only professional and unbiased policing to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process.
Meanwhile, residents of Osun State had earlier staged a protest calling for the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, over alleged bias ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The protesters accused security agencies of failing to prosecute perpetrators of politically motivated violence, a situation they said had emboldened political thugs and increased tension in the state.
A coalition of civil society organisations under the Network of Osun Civil Society Groups also backed the call, urging the Inspector-General of Police to redeploy the commissioner over alleged partisanship and concerns about compromised policing ahead of the election.
