Abductors Demand N200m As Osun Council Vice Chairman Spends 18 Days In Kidnappers’ Den
The vice-chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, Debo Faroumbi is still in captivity 18 days after his abduction by some unidentified gunmen.
Faroumbi was abducted in Ora-Igbona, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 by some assailants who invaded the community.
OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the gunmen stormed the community shooting sporadically into the air and creating panic in the town.
The gunmen, it was gathered, picked four residents, including two Fulani women, a resident and Mr Faroumbi.
However, the gunmen were quickly resisted by the military stationed in the town who relentlessly pursued the assailants, forcing them to abandon three of the victims and whisk away the council officials into the forest.
A source within the community who was privy to the incident told OSUN DEFENDER yesterday that the abductors have demanded for the sum of N200 million as ransom to release the vice-chairman. The source said that contributions are ongoing for his release.
“The community is making efforts to get him released. Contributions are ongoing as I speak,” the source stated.
Commenting on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of Osun Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi disclosed that three persons have been arrested in connection to the abduction.
Ojelabi said the three persons included the one person the vice chairman went to visit on the day he was kidnapped.
He made the disclosure in a telephone interview with OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday.
“The police in the area have went to comb the forest for possible arrest but we were able to arrest three persons including the person he went to visit before he was kidnapped and we brought them to our office,” he stated.
