INEC Extends Voter Registration To July 24, Unveils Online Self-Service Option
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks and introduced a new online self-service registration platform for first-time voters.
The commission announced this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the CVR exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, and was originally scheduled to end on Friday, July 10, 2026, will now continue until Friday, July 24, 2026.
INEC said the decision followed a review of the exercise and feedback received from its state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
The commission explained that the extension is intended to give more eligible Nigerians who are yet to register the opportunity to be included in the National Register of Voters ahead of future elections.
INEC also announced that from Wednesday, July 8, 2026, it will roll out a fully online self-service voter registration platform for eligible first-time voters.
The commission said the service will be accessible through its dedicated portal, cvr.inecnigeria.org.
According to INEC, the platform will enable eligible Nigerians to complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using their personal devices from any location without visiting an INEC office.
It added that the system incorporates identity verification, biometric validation and backend checks to safeguard the integrity of the National Register of Voters.
“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a fair and reasonable opportunity to be included in the Register of Voters,” the statement read.
INEC urged eligible citizens who are yet to register to take advantage of both the extended registration period and the new online platform.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a credible, inclusive and accessible voter registration process while leveraging technology to improve citizens’ participation in the electoral process.
