A.B.U Staff And Daughter Sentenced To Prison

A Magistrate court sitting in Fada Zaria, Kaduna under the lordship of Chief Magistrate Maigamo sentenced a staff of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and her final year daughter of the university to six-month and seven years imprisonment respectively for faking a kidnap.

According to the Presiding magistrate, Akpan and her daughter, Inyene Akpan were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, giving false information with intent to mislead the public, co staffs and fabrication of false evidence.

Investigation revealled that Mrs Akpan faked the kidnap of her daughter, Inyene and resulted to accuse her adversaries who she perceived to be in the politics of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), ABU Chapter.

The Chief magistrate listed those she accused as Muhammad Gimba Alfa, Mohammed Inusa, Lawal Yakubu Hunkuyi, Haruna Mohammed, Salisu Isa and Rev. J. F Bukkah.

On the police investigations and subsequent court proceedings, Chief Magistrate Maigamo found Mrs Akpan and her daughter, Inyene, guilty on the three count charges and were simultaneously sentenced to six-month imprisonment with option of N25,000 fine and seven years imprisonment with option of N75,000 fine.

The Chief Magistrate affirmed that it was in accordance with the Constitution under section 97(2) and 140 as well as 158(2) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 1991.

Meanwhile, informations has it that the defendants were first arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Chediya, GRA, Zaria before the case was transferred to Chief Magistrate Court, Fada, Zaria before the case was finally addressed after about six years.
