Residents of Osun State have praised the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, following a viral video showing him fraternising with politicians and supporters across party lines.

Salaam during a visit to the palace of the Alademure of Ibokun, was seen warmly engaging with political leaders and supporters across party affiliations, including Accord Party chieftain and member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Obokun State Constituency, Adeyemi Irekandu.

The interaction, which many social media users described as a demonstration of political maturity and tolerance, was seen as a reflection of the ADC candidate’s commitment to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence regardless of political affiliations.

Speaking during the visit, Salaam emphasised the need for politics to serve as a tool for development rather than division.

“Politics should unite the people, not divide them. Together, we can build a better Osun for all,” he said.

A video of the interaction shared on Facebook attracted numerous reactions, with many commenters describing Salaam as a symbol of the Yoruba Omoluabi ethos and calling for greater civility in political engagements.

One of the commenters, Saheed Olorun’rinu Onilrola, recounted a personal encounter with the ADC candidate in Ila-Orangun, stating that Salaam showed generosity and respect despite visible political differences.

“I love this man. He came to Ila-Orangun yesterday and saw many of us wearing Accord face caps, yet he still gave out a huge amount of money. I really love Najeem Salaam, but I stand with Imole till 2030,” he wrote.

Another commenter, John Kolawole, questioned the hostility often associated with politics, saying, “Why should we be fighting each other because of politics? Kudos to them.”

Kayode Ogunwale described the development as an example worthy of emulation, noting that politics should be conducted without bitterness and unnecessary hostility.

Several other commenters echoed similar sentiments. Moshood Moshood, who identified himself as a supporter of another political tendency, admitted admiration for Salaam’s personality, saying he would have considered supporting him under different circumstances.

Aare Samson Odunyemi Aderinlewo and Tolulope Akande both praised the politician’s character, insisting that the popular description “Iwaloye” aptly reflects his personality and leadership style.

Others, including Adewale Samson Adeniyi, Adegunju Adeshina, Oyedele Olajide Abass and Olabode Johnson Olatunbosun, described the gesture as an act of maturity, love and political tolerance, stressing that politics should never be treated as a do-or-die affair.

The exchange has continued to generate discussions online, with many residents urging politicians across party divides to embrace mutual respect and prioritise the collective development of the state over partisan rivalry.
