The Gombe State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has demanded accountability from Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya over the spending of more than ₦203 billion allocated to the state’s 11 Local Government Areas between January 2019 and June 2025.

In a statement on Monday, the party’s State Chairman, Bobo Benson Bagwiba, condemned the poor state of infrastructure and social services in Gombe despite the huge inflow of funds.

“Over ₦203 billion has entered our Local Government system in just six years, yet our people cannot see the results.

“Our roads are still death traps, our hospitals remain dysfunctional, schools are without chairs or learning materials, and young people are roaming the streets without jobs.”

He gave a breakdown of the allocations received:

“Akko: ₦23.8 billion; Gombe: ₦20.6 billion; Yamaltu-Deba: ₦20.3 billion; Funakaye: ₦19.4 billion; Dukku: ₦19.0 billion; Balanga: ₦18.1 billion; Billiri: ₦18.0 billion; Kwami: ₦17.6 billion; Kaltungo: ₦16.3 billion; Nafada: ₦15.9 billion and Shongom: ₦13.7 billion. This totaled ₦203,065,420,151.”

He also condemned the Local Government Chairmen for allegedly aiding the mismanagement of funds.

“Local Government Chairmen must wake up and stop behaving like rubber stamps for state-level looting. They were elected to serve the people, not to surrender local allocations into the hands of a few individuals who mismanage and divert them,” he added.

Bagwiba urged citizens, traditional institutions, and civil society organisations to insist on accountability.

“This is not about opposition politics—it is about justice, transparency, and the right of every citizen to benefit from public resources. If over ₦203 billion cannot produce basic development, then Gombe people are being robbed in broad daylight. Enough is enough,” he said.
