Abducted Osun Students Leader Regains Freedom

The dark cloud of fear that had enveloped the student community in Osun State over the abduction of Comrade Arogundade Salmah Abiodun has finally lifted as the former Students’ Union General Secretary of Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa-Oke, regained her freedom on Tuesday.

Salmah was kidnapped on Thursday, December 21, along the Abuja-Lokoja expressway while traveling to Ede, Osun State, for the festive season.

Her abduction, accompanied by a staggering ₦100 million ransom demand, had sparked widespread concern and appeals for support from her colleagues, friends, and students groups.

In a statement confirming her release, Comrade Abiodun Castro, a former NANS Osun Chairman and close relative, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the efforts to secure her freedom.

“Arogundade Shalmah Abiodun’s freedom has been achieved, and we are grateful for the concern, prayers, and financial assistance provided. All donations should be halted. Thank you,” Castro announced.

Olaore Naheem, a close friend of Salmah, also shared his appreciation.

He said, “As our comrade and dear sister regains freedom from the den of her abductors today, we are compelled to thank all and sundry who shared in our pains and agony since the sardonic abduction happened. The past few days have been filled with dark moments and aching hearts, but the support from friends, family, and the student community has been overwhelming.”

Naheem further acknowledged the roles played by various groups, including the OSCOTECH Esa-Oke Alumni, PATHFINDER MOVEMENT Alumni, and KWASU Civil Engineering Alumni, alongside civil society organizations and media houses, in keeping Salmah in their thoughts and prayers.

Speaking to Osun Defender earlier, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Opalola Yemisi, had said she was unaware of the incident but would make further inquiries.
