The abducted twins of an Islamic cleric in Oyo State, Taofeeq Akeugbagold, have been freed.
Akeugbagold, who was the Chairman of the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Muslim wing, during the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, confirmed their release in a Facebook post on Sunday morning.
He said his toddlers were released early Sunday at 05:30am after eight days in their abductor’s net.
The gunmen had reportedly stormed the home of Akeugbagold in Abatakan community, Ojoo, Ibadan, and abducted his 28-month-old twin children.
The victims, Taiwo and Kehinde, were said to have been abducted around 8pm, while their father was in the studio for a Ramadan recording.
The twins, according to the cleric, were born after his wife had endured a 12-year delay.
He said the kids were in the house with their mother when the kidnappers broke into the compound.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, had confirmed the abduction of the toddlers, noting that investing was ongoing.
But Akeugbagold broke a piece of heartwarming news on his Facebook wall on Sunday morning.
He wrote, “Alhamdulillah! At 5.30 am on Sunday, 3rd May, my abducted twin kids were released to me beside a bush after eight days in an unknown land. Thanks to you all for your prayers and support, Jazakumullahu khairan.”
