Abuja Explosion Death Toll Rises To 10
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department has confirmed that the death toll from the multiple explosions in Karu, Abuja, has increased to 10.
Acting Director-General of the department, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said on Thursday that five victims were recovered from the scene dead, four of whom were burnt beyond recognition, while another died at the hospital on Wednesday.
Further investigations revealed that four more victims had succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, bringing the total fatalities to 10.
“This morning when I asked my officials to go round, they discovered that four others had died in the hospital. This brings the death toll to 10.”
The explosion occurred on Wednesday when a truck driver lost control near Karu Bridge on the Abuja-Keffi expressway, ramming into several vehicles in traffic.
The Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, FEMD, Mark Nyam, stated that eight bodies were deposited at Karu Hospital morgue, one at Asokoro District Hospital morgue, and another at the National Hospital, Abuja.
More than 30 injured victims are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive carefully and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
