Academic Activities Crippled In OAU As Blackout Enters Second Day

Academic activities at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, could not hold on Tuesday, as the prolonged blackout due to the organised labour strike entered its second day.

As a result of the shutdown of the national grid, the university’s campus was plunged into darkness, leaving students and staff stranded.

Osun Defender reports that all faculties, departments, and hostels have been affected, making it impossible for students to study effectively.

Students who are the most hit are expressing frustration and concern over missed deadlines and disrupted study schedules.

With no power to charge their gadgets, students are forced to take buses to nearby towns to find charging stations, incurring additional expenses and inconvenience.

Tomiwa Oladapo, a third-year History student, expressed her frustration, saying, “It’s frustrating to spend money on transportation just to charge my phone and laptop.”

Another student, who craved anonymity, shared how he and his roommates are struggling with limited power resources, making the blackout even more challenging.
