Accidents: Company Organises Safety Course For Osun Residents

As part of efforts to decrease the rate of accidents in the construction sector, Oriche oil and gas company Limited on Thursday, launched a three days health and safety training for residents of the State of Osun.

The training which is a professional course licensed by Losh Managing Safety, United kingdom, commenced in Ayegbaju International market, Osogbo.

Speaking about the training, the chairman of the company, Mr. Tajudeen Adeoti, said the health and safety course is geared towards tackling health and safety issues at work places.

Adeoti explained that the training also serve to protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, and others who might be affected by the work place environment.

He added that the improvement of workers in a conducive atmosphere with safety and health management should be of interest to the safety manager.

According to him, “development of organizations and working cultures in a direction which supports health and safety at work is a strategy to promotes a positive social climate and smooth operation which will enhance productivity of the undertakings.

“Many people have lost their life while some contacted heart disease, cancer because of low concern of health and safety of the construction company.

“The safety manager is multidisciplinary field concerned with the safety, health, environment and welfare of people at work.

“As defined by the Joint International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the main focus in occupational health is on three different objectives, the maintenance and promotion of workers’ health and working capacity.”

Adeoti thereby urged government to enforce the health and safety law on all construction Companies in Nigeria in order to protect people at work inline with the guidelines of World Health Organization, WHO.
