The Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Babajide Omoworare has disagreed with the State Chairman of the Accord Party, Segun Fanibe that the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) connived to attacked members of his party in the last Saturday’s Local Government election in Ile-Ife and its environ.
He describe the allegation as “a mere acting”, saying, the result of the election was the true reflection of the wishes of the people.
According to him, the Accord Party has no structure, but it only got the sympathy of the people in 2016 House of Assembly bye-election in Ife Central because a lot of people disagreed with the processes that threw up the candidates of the APC and PDP for the election, saying, “in politics, the sympathy does not mean you have structure”.
“What I even heard was that he was being sponsored by some PDP people. That the PDP and APC connived to fight Accord is acting, can you believe that? PDP and APC have always had history of tough contest against each other. It shows that Fanibe is just learning politics one on one.
“Probably, it would have been more contentious if the PDP had contested, but Accord Party, definitely no.
“Though, a lot of people did not agree with the process that threw up the candidates for this election, but in politics you don’t have to be satisfied all the time, internal party mechanism will subsequently provide for succour.
“What has happened is that you will rather work and vote for the candidate of your party rather than working against the party and that is why you see people trooped out to work and vote for the APC. No doubt, it is a true reflection of the wishes of the people”, Omoworare stressed.
Also, an Aspirant for the House of Assembly seat of Ife East Constituency, Yinka Olatunbosun has said that the election was a true reflection of the acceptability of APC in Ifeland, saying that there is need to build on the structure towards subsequent elections.
According to him, besides the conduct of the election, the introduction of the parliamentary system as entrenched through the Saturday’s council election was an initiative that would guarantee transparency, accountability and make governance more participatory at the grassroots level.
He said the parliamentary system is the appropriate democratic alternative that would guarantee development at the local government level.
