The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has announced that ten candidates have progressed to the next stage in the selection process for the position of Accountant-General of the Federation.

A statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, confirmed that the development follows the conclusion of a written examination, which assessed candidates’ knowledge of public financial management, auditing, and fiscal policy.

Out of the fifteen candidates who sat for the examination, ten successfully met the required standard and will now proceed to the next phase, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficiency test, scheduled to take place on Thursday, 13th February 2025.

The ICT test, regarded as a critical component of the selection process, is designed to evaluate candidates’ ability to integrate modern technology into financial administration, an essential skill for the role.

Commitment To Merit-Based Selection

Speaking on the development, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and merit-based recruitment.

“This process reflects our dedication to appointing only the most capable individuals to leadership roles in public financial management,” she stated.

New Appointment to Replace Outgoing Accountant-General

The vacancy for the Accountant-General of the Federation follows the impending exit of the current officeholder, Dr Oluwatoyin Madein, whose tenure will officially come to an end on 7th March 2025.

The final appointee will be tasked with overseeing the nation’s public finances, ensuring transparency, and strengthening financial management at the federal level.

According to the statement, the government remains committed to fairness and equity in the recruitment process.

“This selection process is guided by meritocracy and ensures that only those with proven competence advance,” the statement read.

Successful candidates from this stage will undergo further evaluations, including an oral interview before a panel comprising experts from both the public and private sectors.
