Kidnappers have again strike in Ondo state abduting five travellers traveling along Oba-Akoko area of the state.

According to reports yesterday on the travellers’ kidnap, the victims were in their vehicle when the gunmen stopped them on the expressway and took them away. The victims’ identities remained unknown at press time.

Sources claimed that the victims were heading to Abuja from Lagos in a Toyota Highlander SUV, when the gunmen stopped them and diverted them to an unknown destination.

The state’s Police image-maker, Femi Joseph, confirmed the development, adding that Police detectives have been deployed to the route, following the incessant activities of kidnappers.

This came barely a week after an about-to-wed couple was kidnapped at Akunnu town in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state. However, detectives in the state have rescued remaining five victims of the kidnap, including the groom, his best man and three ladies kidnapped on their way to a wedding engagement in Akure.

The team put in place by the new Police Commissioner, Gbenga Adeyanju, swooped on the suspects in their hideout in a bush at Oba-Akoko area of the state and rescued the victims.

The rescued ladies were part of the five persons abducted last week by six gunmen while traveling from the eastern part of the country to Abuja. It was learned that the groom, Moses Yakubu, bride and his friend, who were abducted at Akunnu in Akoko North-East Local Government area of Ondo State, were on their way to Akure for their engagement ceremony.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the victims was coming from Okenne, Kogi State when the gunmen struck. The bride and her sister, according to the father of the bride, Ahmed Amodu, were later released while the groom and his friends were not released.

The State Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the rescue of the victims, said the Police were on the trail of the abductors.
