The Maye of Ife, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, has donated relief materials worth millions of naira and cash gifts to the Hausa community in Ile-Ife.
He made the donation when he visited the Hausa community in Sabo Area to commiserate with them over the human and material loss, recorded during the clash that erupted between them and some Yoruba youths on March 8.
Making the donation, Adedoyin commended the leadership of the Hausa community, led by the Sheriki, Alhaji Muhammed, for its roles in restoring peace during the crisis that erupted between the two communities.
He also said that the Sheriki being a God-fearing clergy, has exercised maturity in handling the crisis, admonishing the Sheriki and other leaders of the Hausa community to call for the intervention of notable Ife sons should the need arise to avert the reoccurrence of such crisis in future.
Adedoyin, however, promised to give a scholarship of N2 million to any member of the Hausa community in Ile-Ife who wished to acquire university education at Oduduwa University.
Adedoyin’s wife, Yeye Maye of Ile-Ife, Chief Mrs R. A. Adedoyin who accompanied her husband on the condolence visit sympathised with the Hausa and Yoruba communities on the crisis, admonishing the two tribes to live in peace and harmony.
She wondered why such trivial issue was allowed to degenerate to a bloody clash that claimed many lives and properties, urging that mechanism should be put in place to avert such occurrence in the future.
She also presented cash gifts to the community.
The Leaders of the Hausa community, Alhaji Muhammadu, expressed gratitude towards the kind gesture showed by the Maye of Ife, regretting the crisis which, he said, could have been avoided.
Describing Ile-Ife as their home, where, according to him, they have settled for a very long time, he said Adedoyin’s visit would provide succour to the families who lost their relatives and properties.
He explained that the donations would go a long way in ensuring that members of the Hausa community who had been rendered homeless as a result of the crisis now have a hope of survival.
While thanking Adedoyin for his visit, another leader of the community, Alhaji Malami Nasidi lauded his kind gesture, just as commended the Sheriki Hausa for allowing a peaceful co-existence between the Hausa’s and the Yoruba’s since the crisis occurred and prayed to Almighty Allah that such would never reoccur again.
