Adeleke Approves Appointment Of New Monarchs For Ilesa, Ora Igbomina

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the appointment of Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup as the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland and Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.

In a press statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the appointments were ratified during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Adeleke.

The Governor emphasized that the selection process adhered strictly to the provisions of the Chiefs’ Law of Osun State, 2002 (Cap 25).

The stool of the Owa Obokun became vacant following the demise of Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, who passed away on September 11, 2024, after a distinguished reign. Similarly, the position of Asaoni of Ora Igbomina became vacant after the death of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe on November 19, 2023.

Governor Adeleke, while congratulating the newly approved monarchs, called on the people of Ijesaland and Ora Igbomina to unite and cooperate with their traditional rulers for the advancement of their communities. He urged the citizens to prioritize peace and harmony, which are pivotal to progress and development.

In a related development, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has also congratulated the new Owa Obokun, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, on his appointment.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the PDP expressed confidence in the leadership of the new monarch, describing him as a unifying figure capable of fostering peace and development in Ijesaland.

The PDP appreciated Governor Adeleke for his decisive action in filling the vacant stool, noting that the new Owa Obokun will continue the legacy of his predecessor, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II.

The party also called on Ijesa sons and daughters to support their new king in promoting the progress and prosperity of the ancient kingdom.

In Ora Igbomina, the appointment of Oba Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the Asaoni is equally seen as a step toward preserving the cultural heritage and fostering development in the community.
