Adeleke Directs Expansion Of Ibodi-Ilesa Road, Creation Of Trailer Park After Accident
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in the state to rehabilitate and widen the Ibodi-Ilesa road at Ilesa.
This was as he directed the Commissioner for Transportation to consider the creation of a trailer park in the area to stop multiple parking of trailers that have endangered the lives of road users in the area.
The governor noted that the move is to forestall incessant accidents that have claimed lives in recent times.
Osun Defender reports that a staff of the University of Ilesa was recently killed on the road when a 40-foot container fell and landed on her car.
A statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the directives were issued when Adeleke received the report of a State Government Committee set up after the accident.
The statement noted that the governor while approving the creation of regulations to govern trucking activities along the said road, warned companies operating in the state to be mindful of the safety and security of their host communities.
The statement read in part, “We are putting stiff regulations in place to prevent the recurrence of such sad incidents in the future. The Ministry of Works will work on expanding the road, and the Ministry of Transportation will develop a trailer park.
“Parking of trailers on that narrow road is hereby prohibited. The speed limit should also be enforced with immediate effect.”
