Adeleke Hails Resident Doctors Over Health Sector Commendation, Promises To Do More
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to intensify efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the welfare of health workers in the state if re-elected for a second term.
The governor stated this on Monday in reaction to commendation from the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, which applauded his administration for implementing key welfare packages for medical personnel in the state.
NARD had cited the payment of the Peculiar Allowance for Tertiary Hospitals, PAT, Specialist Allowance, SA, the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, MRTF, Annual Leave Bonus, and Accoutrement Allowance.
The association described the interventions as laudable and an example of visionary leadership and a genuine investment in the healthcare workforce.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, noted that Adeleke said his administration recognises the critical role of resident doctors and other health workers in sustaining effective healthcare delivery.

He said that the focus on staff welfare had contributed to Osun’s performance in the health sector.
According to him, Osun emerged first in the South West and overall winner of the Primary Health Care Challenge for both 2024 and 2025. The state was also recently ranked fifth nationally for efficiency in public hospital services and delivery.
“I cherish this acknowledgement of our commitment to the health sector from the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD. This will encourage us to do more, especially for the secondary and tertiary health sectors,” the governor said.
He added that the welfare of health workers remains a priority of his administration and will be expanded further in a second term.
