A former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adejare Bello, has disclosed that apart from road infrastructure, Governor Ademola Adeleke is lagging behind in other sectors.
Bello said his kinsman has no legacy projects to point to outside the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the state since he assumed office in 2022.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico stated this while featuring on TVC’s Politics Tonight.
Bello, while answering questions on whether the governor is doing enough, said the road infrastructure program of the incumbent administration is focused on Ede, the hometown of Governor Adeleke, and Osogbo, the state capital.
He added that the allocations coming from the federal government to Osun are not commensurate with the projects on the ground.
Bello said, “Adeleke has done very well infrastructure-wise in Ede and Osogbo, but I’m not sure of other cities having the same benefits. It is not even about whether he is being selective, but if you juxtapose the amount of money coming into the state with the projects on the ground, they are not commensurate.
“Civil servants are very happy with him because he is paying the minimum wage. The table they did in Osun State happens to be one of the best in the whole of South West and he is paying the arrears of salaries owed by the APC government. But I wonder if the people give commendations based on the governor paying salaries.
“The Governor should think of another legacy project apart from road constructions and rehabilitations. We need other things in other areas.”
When asked which area he thinks the governor is lagging, the former speaker said the state is suffering from inadequate teachers and good buildings in some schools, urging the state governor to find a way to address the issue.
“Look at the education sector, we don’t have teachers or good buildings in some of the schools and that is our priority because that is our future,” Bello added.
On if the APC can defect Adeleke in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, Bello said anyone presented by the APC will defeat the incumbent Governor.
He said, “I can tell you authoritatively that APC is ready for the election. We have credible aspirants and I tell you, any of them picked, without rancour in the party, will beat Adeleke in the election.
“The moment any of them is picked and it is done transparently, you can be sure there won’t be any rancour. We have a leadership structure, and we do things accordingly in the APC.”
