The Governor of Osun, Senator Ademola Adeleke has reiterated his commitment to reinstate Local Government Autonomy in the State.
The Governor dropped this hint during the ongoing Ministerial Briefing organised to have an interface with all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government in order to cross fertilize ideas on how to move the State to greater height.
According to the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, “Local Government needs to be granted autonomy as this is the grassroots government through which the people get the dividends of democracy and at the same time, granting autonomy to local governments is in total accord with the principle of federalism”.
He said further that over the years, the political will has bastardised the entire local government administration to the extent that Local Government has been rendered inconsequential, a situation which he admitted is anti progressive to the wellbeing of the citizenry .
The Governor however promised to restore normalcy to all the things done in aberration in the past.
In his earlier address, the Coordinating Director, Local Government Service Commission, Barrister Lekan Babalola appreciated Governor Adeleke for yielding to the yearnings of the people of the State through his readiness to grant autonomy to local government saying the step would go a long way in accelerating development in all the nooks and crannies of the State.
